Ali and the Cats are a Nottingham based band that plays their own original music.
Their style is a kind of English Steely Dan. And if that doesn't mean anything to you,
they play rock music. The official description according to the band is
“Jazz and Blues influenced Rock.”
The current format is a four piece consisting of Alison on vocals, Frank on guitar and
vocals, Chris on bass and backing vocals and Alan on drums.
Although there are only four members in the band they can deliver a surprisingly
complex and varied sound. This is due to everyone getting involved
in the singing and also to Alison's role as occasional keyboard player.
They have been together for a number of years in various formats, sometimes
doing covers and sometimes playing only their own original music. But the
set up now seems to be the most successful at presenting their original work,
written and arranged by Frank.
The quality of the band's sound at the moment is partly due to decision
to play much more quietly than they used to, so that everyone can hear what's
going on!
